ISO37114 standard for Urban Management Information approved

On June 17, 2022, the international standard ISO37114 "Sustainable cities and communities — Appraisal framework for datasets and data processing methods that create urban management information", which is led by China,   successfully passed the vote, and was   approved by the Technical Committee for sustainable development of cities and communities of the international organization for Standardization (ISO/TC268). China, Britain, Brazil, Italy, India and other countries will send experts to participate in the preparation of standards, which is another major breakthrough in China's international standards in the field of smart cities.

The world needs coordinated development of standards, and standards promote world connectivity. ISO 37114 is an important achievement of standardization cooperation between China and Britain. In 2013, witnessed by the leaders of the two countries, China and the UK successfully signed the China UK standards mutual recognition agreement, which simplifies trade procedures, reduces trade costs and promotes market interoperability through standards cooperation. On this basis, China Institute of standardization, BSI knowledge, China Singapore Tianjin Eco City Management Committee and Yudao Technology Co., Ltd. jointly signed the letter of intent for cooperation on standardization of data management for sustainable development between China and the UK. From 2018 to 2019, three Sino British standardization working meetings were organized in London, England, Shanghai, China, and Manchester, England, respectively, forming a draft Sino British consensus. The pre proposal (PWI) was voted through in September 2020.

Data is the core of smart city development and the engine driving the modernization of urban governance, the smartness of industrial development and the convenience of citizens' lives. ISO 37114 will build data sets and data processing methods around indicators, data and other urban management information, associate urban big data with final applications, be compatible with artificial intelligence and realize machine-readable and intelligent management of data, guide data collection, management and excavation with sustainable development goals, facilitate open sharing, assist urban management and scientific decision-making, and form data assets.

The success of ISO 37114 project is of great significance for further improving and promoting the construction of China's urban data management system, and creating value in collaboration with the global community.

In the following stage, the working group will prepare the draft of the standard. At the same time, it will continue to solicit experts and enterprises in the fields of big data, Internet of things, artificial intelligence and other fields to participate in the work, and strive to contribute more Chinese solutions and Chinese wisdom to the world.
