Workshop on Urban Management Information for sustainable cities successfully held

On August 18, 2022, the pilot training and exchange meeting (online) of international standards for urban sustainable development was successfully held. The activity was highly concerned by cities and standardization units in various regions. Representatives from cities such as Hainan, Inner Mongolia, Chengdu and Hangzhou attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Dr. Yang Feng from China Institute of Standardization gave a brief introduction to the development progress of various international standards in the field of ISO/TC 268 urban sustainable development. The international standards expert group from Yudao Shifang group interpreted specific international standards such as ISO 37101, ISO 37104 and ISO 37114 and made suggestions on the operation mechanism of the pilot project.

ISO 37101 and ISO 37104 are a series of management system standards. Among them, ISO 37101:2016 requirements and use guide for urban and community sustainable development management system is the first standard for urban sustainable development management system, and ISO 37104:2019 local implementation guide for urban and community sustainable development to change our cities is the first international standard dominated by China in this field, It represents a major breakthrough in China's international standardization work.

As a new production factor, data is the basis of digitalization, networking and intelligence. It plays an increasingly important role in improving production efficiency, improving quality of life and innovating social governance. Data has technical and economic characteristics such as high initial cost, low replication cost and non exclusiveness, and can be used indefinitely without loss of quantity and quality.

The construction of data infrastructure system is related to the overall situation of national development and security. This has pointed out the direction for our development of the digital economy.

ISO 37114 Sustainable cities and communities — Appraisal framework for datasets and data processing methods that create urban management information is an important support for improving urban data infrastructure system construction. This standard will build data sets and data processing methods around urban management information such as indicators and data, link urban big data and final application, allow the application of artificial intelligence technologies such as machine-readable and intelligent management of data, guide data collection, management and mining with sustainable development goals, and facilitate the transparency and scientific decision-making of urban governance, and form data assets. This standard helps to transform huge data resources into production factors, empower the real economy, and inject new momentum into high-quality development.

Standards are the key support to promote the sustainable development of cities. Carrying out the international standardization pilot of urban sustainable development is a powerful measure to give play to the leading role of international first-class standards and improve the level of urban sustainable development, international influence and competitiveness. Since 2016, under the support of ISO/TC268 and SAC/TC567, ISSCC member cities and experts have provided technical support for relevant cities in China to carry out international standard pilot of sustainable development and participate in international standard development, and accumulated rich experience in international standardization pilot of urban sustainable development.

In the future, it is hoped that more cities will pay attention to the international standards of urban sustainable development, standardize the energy level of cities, enhance their own popularity and influence, and promote the "China case" and "China model" of urban sustainable development to the world.
