Call for Case on Cities & Communities Carbon Neutrality
14
Climate change has been an ongoing concern for all countries around the world. To combat climate change and promote sustainable development, we should reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and specifically, having net-zero carbon dioxide emissions. In October 2018, the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released a report calling on countries to take action to work towards limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. To achieve this goal, rapid and far-reaching reforms are essential in the areas of land, energy, industry, buildings, transport and cities. As an international organization dedicated to the standardization of sustainable development, the International Smart Sustainable City Club (ISSCC) has been promoting the upgrading of innovative municipal management capabilities, improving public services and social civilization, enhancing urban cohesion and social well-being, and improving urban functions and living environments through international standards since our establishment in 2017. Currently, ISSCC is fully engaged in the action of international standardization of carbon neutrality. In order to implement the concept of sustainable development, promote the "standard application, policy sharing, results exchanging and enterprise cooperation" among the Club member cities, collect and collate excellent & pioneering cases of carbon neutral cities, villages, communities and buildings in the field of sustainable development of cities and communities around the world, explore the concrete measures and practices of green and high-quality development from low carbon to near-zero and then to net zero, summarize the excellent experiences for promotion and drafting of international standards. ISSCC is calling for applications for carbon neutral cities to provide standardized solutions for global near-zero or net zero carbon strategies. The relevant matters are hereby as follows. I. Collection time From now until 30 June 2022 II. Who may apply for ISSCC P member cities, pilot cities and O members; cities and communities with cases in the field of carbon neutral cities and sustainable community development. III. Contents wanted Cases of carbon neutrality in cities Advanced experiences and practices of cities in green transport management, promotion of clean energy, efficient use of resources, carbon sink, carbon capture and storage, carbon asset management, etc. Cases of carbon neutrality in communities Cases of communities with achievements in low carbon lifestyle and energy efficiency improving and cases of retrofit or new constructed near-zero/net-zero carbon communities. Promotion and publicity The cases collected will be screened and evaluated by experts from the ISSCC think tank and then compiled into the Report of ISSCC Excellent Cases on Carbon Neutrality, which will be published at the ISSCC 2022 plenary meeting and also on the ISSCC official website. ISSCC will invite city officials/case providers to speak and share their experiences at the ISSCC 2022 plenary meeting. ISSCC will award the ISSCC Carbon Neutrality Pioneer plate to the case providers at the ISSCC 2022 plenary meeting. ISSCC will deepen and follow up the study on carbon neutrality cases, promote the development of international standards on carbon neutrality with ISO/TC268. V.
