On December 15, 2020, the Sino-British working conference of "international standard pilot for sustainable development of small and medium sized cities" was held in Guangzhou online and offline at the same time. The meeting was hosted by CNIS and SAC/TC567. Officials in charge of international standards pilot cities and technical support agencies for sustainable development of small and medium-sized cities such as Sino Singapore Tianjin Eco-city, Guangzhou University City, Guangzhou Huangpu Development Zone and Qujiang District of Quzhou attended the meeting as Chinese representatives; Representatives from the UK include representatives from the Sino-UK international standards cooperation project, BSI and other research institutes on urban issues.
The progress of the pilot project of international standards for sustainable development of small and medium-sized cities was reported on the meeting. At the same time, Chinese side share and discuss with the British side regarding China's experience in the pilot development of international standards for sustainable development, so as to further promote exchanges and cooperation among international cities. At the meeting, Dr. Yang Feng firstly introduced the overall situation of China's pilot cities of international standards for sustainable development to the British side, and reported the specific progress of the standard test to the representatives of each city. Representatives of Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco City and Guangzhou University City reported the content, implementation plan, work progress and later plan of the standard application. This paper focuses on how the international standards for sustainable development of small and medium-sized cities guide and explore the development route of small and medium-sized cities to achieve regional sustainable development and growth, and how to measure the achievements of economic, social and environmental development through periodic evaluation. After listening to the report, the British experts spoke highly of the results of the pilot projects, affirmed the practical experience gained by the pilot cities, appreciated that the cities could actively and comprehensively implement the requirements of the standards for urban governance and evaluation process, and believed that these results could provide meaningful and distinctive experience for the development of other small and medium-sized cities in the future. After listening to the opinions, the Chinese representative also said that with the development of society, more and more small and medium-sized cities and all walks of life are beginning to realize that standardization is a tool and help for the development of a city rather than an additional burden, which is also the significance of promoting pilot cities and demonstration cities. It is believed that through the joint efforts and practice of participating units and pilot cities, it will provide "Chinese experience" of sustainable development for more small and medium-sized cities in the international field. Finally, both sides expressed the hope to see more inter regional cooperation between small and medium-sized cities, and share the development achievements with other small and medium-sized cities, so as to jointly cope with the challenges brought about by global urbanization. In the future, both sides will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation, optimize pilot programs, explore experimental paths, and tell the story of the development of small and medium-sized cities in China. |
